Jesus Relation to the Passover

Relation to the Passover
Jesus' crucifixion took place after the Synoptics on the main feast of Passover, 15 Nisan, instead. According to John's Gospel, however, he died on 14 Nisan at the same time when the Passover lambs were slaughtered in the Jerusalem Temple.

Jesus' death is thus located in early Christianity in the history of suffering, on the other hand, the exemption hope of Israel. His resurrection is the ultimate affirmation of hope and their extension to all peoples.

The Christian Eucharist is the result of the Jewish Seder, and has taken substantive elements of it. This includes the symbol of the paschal lamb, which is reminiscent of the AD to 70 AD the temple slaughtered Passover sacrifice.
