Real marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a plant of the mallow family (Malvaceae). The species is on the Dutch Red List of plants as relatively rare and moderately decreased.
The plant is 60-150 cm tall and is velvety hairy. The fruits are hairy part. Marshmallow flowers from July to September with pale pink flowers.
Marshmallow is found mainly in brackish water reed marshes, in ditches and fields verruigde. Is also along the IJsselmeer.
