Straps of Carnation

Straps (Corrigiola litoralis) is a plant belonging to the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). The species is on the Dutch Red List of rare plants and greatly reduced. The plant is native to western and southern Europe and northwest Africa.


The plant is 5-30 cm high and has a lot of lying or upright stems. The blue-green linear leaves are the widest at the top. The stipules are membranous.


Straps blooms from June to September with white or pink flowers, which are bijschermen.


The fruit is a capsule.


The plant is found in dry summers, moderately nutrient-rich sand and gravel soils, such as moorland and river banks.
